Muskoka Weekend

Darcie, Mandy, and I went up to our friends Mark and Vanessa's cottage in the Muskoka area this past weekend. We did some relaxing, reading, lots of eating, and lots of water sports. Mandy and Darcie both went waterskiing which they hadn't done in a long time, and Mark and I had fun being pulled on their tube. Vanessa did her best to shake us off but Mark and I did a pretty good job staying on, although many times just barely. It was so fun.
Mark and Vanessa told us there was a beaver dam 5 minutes up a stream from their cottage so one day when they were working at the Juicery, the three of us went to find it and as you can see from the pictures, it was massive. It was about 2 feet over my head and probably 25 yards long in total. It was very impressive to stand in front and look at all the individual pieces of wood with mud that was holding back all the water, knowing it was built one stick at a time. Pretty incredible engineering. All around the dam were stumps of trees that they'd chewed down to use in the dam.
