Homewarming Party

We wanted to have some friends over for a home warming party but wanted to wait until the kitchen was done. Here's a few pic's of the shananigans. We were playing Cranium. The people in the first picture are Marcus (Derek's friend going to UofT), Derek, Stacey, Mandy, Darcie, then Patsy with the blonde hair. We think Stacey looks like Laura. Hard to tell in that photo. There's also a couple of pictures of the living room/dining room from different angles than before.

Kitchen is finally done

Well its taken a lot of nights and weekends and some hard work but we've finally got the kitchen completed to the point where it's functional. We finally got the last coats of paint on the cupboards so we could unpack all of our kitchen stuff and use it like a normal kitchen. It felt good when we got to that point. We also had to finish the cupboard doors which we cleaned, sanded, added molding, painted, and added hardware to. We got the molding from Home Depot and had to reduce the thickness of it with a table saw. We put a small chamfer on the edges to finish it off a little more. We were able to go to Plas-Tech a couple times to use a lot of tools like a table saw, nail gun, and router which we were very fortunate to be able to use. Made working on the cupboard doors a whole lot easier. We put some nice satin nickel finish hardware on for knobs and hinges. When we were putting the cupboard doors on one at a time, it felt so good cause we could see it coming together and we could see the end was near. We're very happy with the way it turned out. The only major thing left in the kitchen besides laminate flooring in the future is the backsplash. You can see a picture of what we'll be using. We think it'll finish it off nicely. The color of the cupboards is a greyish silver color but looks kind of white in the pictures. If you look at the older post "Sorry it's been so long", you can see some good pictures of what it looked like before.

Living room almost done

Here's a picture of the living room after the new coat of paint. It's a grayish green but looks darker at night. The ceiling and walls are painted in the living room. All that's left is the baseboards and touch ups.

Darcie starting to paint the cupboards with the first coat. Below are her feelings after realizing they'll need more than one base coat.

Painting Ceilings Is The Worst

My extension wasn't very good so I painted like this for about 30 seconds until I snapped the roller handle. Had to upgrade to better extensions/poles

Sorry It's Been So Long

Here's some photo's of our new apartment. We've taken some before photo's so you can see the comparison before and after once we're finished. We've had to do a lot of cleaning, especially in the kitchen as you can see from some of the 'grease' pictures on the walls, stove, and cupboards. Probably years of cooking oily foods and not cleaning up afterwards.
Yesterday, Mason from BC who goes to school with Darcie came over to help us paint the ceiling which was really nice of him. That's the first time we've painted. We're doing the walls in the kitchen and living room next. Can't wait for paint to be done and have things set up normally again without plastic draped everywhere.
We couldn't believe the difference in the new paint on the ceiling and the color of the existing paint. We didn't think it looked as dated or dirty until we had the new white paint on. It was such a difference - like gray and white. Maybe you can see it in the pictures. Of course, we ended up needing more paint then we thought. Always the case isn't it. Paint will definitely be our most expensive costs with the changes we're doing. Weird thing was after we were done painting last night around 12, there were so many flies that found their way into the apartment, probably came up through the vents in the building. I suspected they smelt the new paint smell and congregated. Anybody else find that happen after they painted?
